Jo Burns

Jo has over thirty years of experience in Health Safety Environment. A Chartered Member of Institution of Occupational Safety & Health CMIOSH, listed on the HSE’s Occupational Health and Safety Consultants Register OSHCR and a Practitioner of the Institute of Environmental Management Association PIEMA.

Working as a Consultant for many years she has advised large corporates and SMEs across many different sectors. However, her specialisms are food, hospitality and leisure, retail, and property/facilities management.

Jo also has extensive experience of advising health and social care clients (such as care providers, GPs and dental practices), financial services organisations and manufacturing businesses.

Matt Smith

Matt is a Solicitor-Advocate specialising in healthcare employment law with over 14 years of experience. He regularly represents predominantly NHS and other public sector clients in employment tribunals around the country, as well as advising them on internal matters. Matt can advise on the full range of employment issues including discrimination, whistleblowing, unfair dismissal, TUPE, redundancies and reorganisations.

Matt is in his second spell with Weightmans’ healthcare employment team, having recently returned to the firm after spending four years at the Equality and Human Rights Commission where he undertook a varied range of litigation, enforcement and legal policy work, predominantly focussing on issues such as sexual harassment, race discrimination and COVID-19, bringing a unique perspective to his work.

Matt has significant experience in providing bespoke training for clients and seminars and speaking at conferences.

Alex Leslie

Alex has over 30 years’ experience in health related law acting for public and private healthcare providers, and is ranked as a Senior Statesperson in the Chambers and Partners UK legal directory.

Alex’s principal area of work is advising professionals working in the NHS on employment, disciplinary, regulatory and ethical issues. His practice also includes advising NHS bodies on employment, governance and associated issues.

Alex has acted in many high profile cases, and has advised participants in major public inquiries, including the BSE and Redfern inquiries.

Alex has published articles, given seminars, contributed to a textbook on health service law and practice and made TV training programmes for LNTV.
